2015 -Cancon list

Well Christmas has come and gone for yet another year, and as i sit and lament about the empty trifle bowl and how it never seems to last past boxing day, I though that whilst my lad was having his afternoon nap I may as well post my army that i will be taking for Cancon, I will be honest here,

SO THAT I WILL STOP TINKERING WITH IT.

Without further ado coming in at 14.7 on the Swedish comp score is my 2400 points of Weaver Corinath's host from the Ashen Halls.

So here is my take on a combat based wood elves, My lack of anti armor except for my 6 way watchers will  make my army very match up dependent.

Western Clash- The results

On the weekend just gone I attended the 13th Western Clash in Melton hosted by D6gaming.

My objectives for this were as follows
Top 10 placement which out of 16 attendees should work out for me.
Win 1 game
30 bp's overall.

This event was billed as a practice event in the lead up to Cancon.( Which as you should be aware is the next major tournament i will be attending)

The guys at D6gaming did a great job of running the event, and they have a good setup as well.

Anyway on to my match ups but I will not post my wood elves list or the lists or names of my opponents as i did not seek permission, and to be honest i can not really remember them at all.

So without any delay

Game 1. v's Bretts
A nice double lord Bretts list.
I lost this game 13-7, I struggled to kill his knight units but handled the chaff okay.
Highlights

  • Bret lances hit hard.
  • Beast magic can make units beasts.

Not bad for a first round loss, so i was in good spirits going into game 2. and only 3 bp of my goal.

Game 2. v's Wood elves
A mirror match  against a very interesting Treespirit List let by an Ancient

This game i won 17-3, it is always fun to see what other gamers think of the same race as yourself.
Highlights

  • Dwellers can be beastly as can +4 Toughness on a unit.
  • I need to remember my Army special rules- arrow of kurnos i am looking at you

Game 3. Dark Elves- Hellbron list
Going into the last round i was fairly apprehensive as Hellbron is a beast and can put out insane damage, i had a lot of luck in this game and my oponnent had some rolls not go his way.
Highlights

  • Dark elf dimensional cascade 1st turn gave me magical dominance.
  • A lucky spell took care of Hellbron and so i was up 700 points before the end of turn 1.
  • This guy was a pleasure to play against and took all the upsets in his stride.

In the end I won the final battle 16-4

The final wash up I placed third, behind a Vampire list and a Mono khorne daemon list.

So how did my list go in the end, it still requires tweaking and changes, but i met my goals for the event.
Top 3 placement
won 2 games
40bp's

Anyway please excuse the lack of detail and pictures, but once my list is submitted in Jan I will provide unending details, that will bore you, and of course some not so pretty pictures.

Cheers

Western Clash - A warm up event for Cancon.

In an effort to kickstart my painting again i have signed up for  Western Clash in Melton Victoria a small 20 person 3 games 1 day affair.
I will be using this to tweak my Cancon list as it is advertised as a Cancon warm up event.

So going into this event my goals are

  • Help decide my spell lores
  • Have fun
  • Win one battle
  • Score 30 battle points.
Minor goals i will admit, but i am not that savvy with my wood elves as yet, so it is best to be conservative.

Anyway less blogging, if i could blog less than this for the moment, i have figs to assemble and paint.

Cheers

All quiet on the painting front.

With October almost over I find that the urge to paint again has returned. With any luck with less then three months to Cancon my new additions will be ready to to roll and I will get a 20 on the painting score.

Time to lay down the Guantlet: Cancon Grudge match

Ferastella lady of the Ashenhalls  sat in contemplation of the weave , it was constantly in flux with the visions and patterns changing at a rapid pace, the only discernible image that she could identify was the death of a Treeman ally at the hands of a Bretonnian Lord with a glowing sword, this must be avenged she thought.

She summoned her herald and bade him to summon her glade guard, the Bretons would feel her wraith at a tiny hamlet that her people once called  Can'ber-ra.

Hi All ,

This is basically the fluff for a grudge match challenge against Josh Crouch my oponnent in Game four of Axemaster, which i hope will agree to a rematch at Cancon game 1.

I expect that he will accept the challenge as he is a top bloke, and i can think of no better way to start an event then with a sure fire fun game.

30th September Duelling Gamers: Duel failed.

Well this is the final installment of my contribrution to Duelling Gamers, I have failed to complete my final targets for the Duel with 5 way watchers, the way stalker and basing the army left uncompleted. I will complete these in October but as far as the duel is concerned the deadline has been reached it is time to down brushes and show my final status.

Duelling Update
Still to Assembled.

Completed this Month
1 Spell Weaver on foot

1 Kitbashed noble on elven steed.
1 Treekin base filler
3 Glade guard, all I could summon the energy to paint after Axemaster.

1 Spellsinger on foot
12 Dryads
Dryad unit filler
25 Glade Guard
6 Glade Riders
3 Treekin
Treeman
1 giant eagle

That is enough of what I have not completed, now for the good news I have a core heavy painted 2000 point army even without my Way watchers , and I am extremely happy with how the look of the Army is coming along. This challenge and the end results provide an excellent kicking off point for the rest of my Wood Elves that are going to follow and expand the army.

Dryads, Treeman, Glade riders and Eagle

Glade guard, Treekin, Deep wood scouts and another eagle

My Characters, two Glade captains, 1 branch wraith and 2 spellweavers

Another View of the Army on the Shelf, with an Owl looking unhappy below.

Another slightly different view.

Learning outcomes from the Duel.
  • Be flexible with monthly goals and try to stay on target: This i found a hard lesson to relearn.
  • Have a color scheme organised: I lost perhaps a month of painting time just trying to figure out how i wanted my elves and tree spirits to look, one dyrad I paint four times before I was happy with it.
  • Chip away at it: I have learned to organize 1 hour painting sessions so that I do not get bored, as well as to take advantage of 15 minute windows when they present themselves as the 15 minute slots can add up to a couple of hours over the course of the week.
  • Have something to listed too whilst painting: Midsomers murders, podcasts and music really helps, i tried to also listen to Game of thrones and Battle Star Gallactica but found i was watching them instead.
My very supportive Wife during one of my late night painting sessions.

My very unsupportive cat how loves my warm seat.

The painting station where all the Magic happens.

So i guess the question that i feel i must ask and answer is

Would you do this duel again: The Answer is a resounding Yes, The Duel has reinvigorated my hobby.

Cheers Lupus.

Kitbashing Ferastella my Gladelady of the Ashenhalls.

This is Ferastella-  Glade lady of the Ashen-halls.

And this is how I made her, unlike the ASB that I kit-bashed for something different, the current wood elves range only has one mounted hero and that is male, I wanted mine to be female so that meant another project.

Parts to make Ferastella

From Glade riders sprue
Elven steed  no 4,Legs torso with boobs, cloak with gems and leaves.left sword arm(sword trimmed) and right sword arm

From Wild riders sisters of the thorn
Wildrider champion head and  2 part hair

From eternal guard wildwood rangers
Shield with gem, and glyph that can be puttied over to make own glyph or something else.

Old wild riders metal.
Metal horse head because i wanted something different.

Final product
And here she is all ready for her showing at Axemaster.

A nice side view.

I like the look of the Silver armor for my elves.

Shield just needs a unique design when i build up the courage.

I am really happy with the cloak

Duelling Gamer's : On target sort of, with a change of plans.

With a change of priorities for the Duel I have modified my final goals. Instead of 5 wild riders, 5 way watchers  and a Citadel wood that I planned to complete, Instead my revised goal will be
1 x kitbashed mounted noble, 1 treekin unit filler (represents 1 treekin), 5 waywatchers, a waywatcher noble and 3 more glade guard.

The reason for this is simply that I have struggled for the last three months to find a color scheme for my wildriders that I was happy with, I will not rush these figures for the duel , so instead I have decided to revise the target instead.

Duelling Update
