Cancon day 1 game 3- Karl Franz, die damn you die

It is now over a month since Cancon and i will admit that i have been super slack in getting these reports done.
So coming into game three after a 30 minute break i was up against last years Cancon TO Dave and his Empire army. Now with a fair amount of 1+ armor in his army I was starting to think my beast weaver should have been a metal weaver after all.

Anyway on with the report, it had been a long day and i was tired so i only remembered to take three photos and the only non blurry one is below.

Game 3- Dave Hurley
Empire
The Mission was Meeting Engagement

Davids list was a 13.9 on the Swedish scale and consisted of

Karl Franz
Barded warhorse, Ghal Maraz

Arch  Lector
Barded Warhorse, heavy armour, great weapon
Dragonhelm, White cloack of Ulric, Ironcurse icon

Captain BSB
Full Plate, Barded warhorse
Sword of might, charmed shield, dawnstone

Luthor Huss

Witch hunter
Brace of pistols ruby ring

Witch hunter
Brace of pistols sword of swift slaying

39 Halberdiers, muso standard
2 detachment of 5 archers

11 inner circle knights
full command , lances warbanner

2 units of 5 reiksguard
muso

Celestial Hurricanum

Steam tank.

Dave put all his mounted characters into his inner circle bus, with the witch hunters with the halberdiers.

Deployment
The special rules for deployments had no real effect on this battle

My spells were
Lifeweaver :- Flesh to stone, Throne of vines, Shield of thorns and Dwellers below
Beastsinger:- Wildform
Branchwraith:- Earthblood

So highlights of this battle are and sorry for the abbreviated nature of this as it have forgotten some details without pictures to remind me.

On turn two I cast dwellers onto the knight bus and this accounted for 5 knights, Luthor Huss, the Arch Lector and the Captain BSB. So this one spell netted me 512vp and took most of the fight out of this unit.
My green dice and casting level = 21 so dwellers goes off, Dave tries to dispel and rolls four blue dice and gets four ones.
This spell was the game changer, it took the wind from the sails of the knight bus and i was able to shoot and magic and use wild rider charges to get the halbediers off the table.

At the end of the game all that was left on Dave's side was Karl Franz on one wound, the steam tank and the Celestial Hurricanum, i could not finish off Karl or the steam tank, but Karl decided to pull 500 points out of my army just by himself over the course of the game so Kudos to Dave.

Result Win 13-7 in my favor.
Another enjoyable game and i finished day one with two wins and a loss, so i was ahead of where i expected to be. I should also mention that Dave painted his army for this event in the three weeks prior, but it looked great despite the time it took to paint, some people are just talented gits in that regard.

Can con day 1 game 2, Mirror match the wood elves

After a nice 2 hour lunch break( that i used for a spot of nerd shopping) it was into round two, and as feared i was pitted against a wood elves general of some repute.

Game 2- Johannes Scherpenhuizen
Wood elves
The Mission was Battle Line
Swedish comp of 15.4

His Army was
Spellweaver Lv3 Beast (general)
Steed, Talisman of preservation, Scroll of shielding

Spellweaver Lv3 Metal
Steed, Opal amulet

Glade Captain BSB
Charmed Shield

Naestra & Arahan
Ceithin-Har (Dragon)

18 X Glade Guard
Lord's Bowman, Trueflight Arrows, Musician, Standard

18 X Glade Guard
Lord's Bowman, Trueflight Arrows, Musician, Standard

7 X Wardancers
Champion

6 X Sisters of the Thorn
Musician

6 X Wild Riders
Shields, Champion, Standard, Gleaming Pennant

6 X Wild Riders
Shields, Champion, Standard

Eagle

Total 2397

So a dual weaver list, with lots of speed and combat ability and of course the sisters on the dragon. I was concerned of course but looking forward to the challenge.

Johannes stunning custom forest dragon with sisters on top , in liu of a picture of the big man.

A picture of his stunning army prior to deployment.
Deployment
Being a standard battleline mission deployment was as we wanted it and Johannes won first turn and decided to have at me.

Turn 1-6
During the first turn arrows flew and spells were rampant.
I was unable to kill both sisters in the shooting and magic phases, which continued for most of the game, I basically don't remember much of the detail about this game except it was damn hot at the venue, shirts were taken off, i learned a lot from a better general and had a blast from this game. I have included as many pictures as i have to try to provide some details.

Turn 1, and the sisters on their dragon measuring ranges.

A depleted unit of enemy wild riders, with my great eagle in the background.

A view of the board at the end of turn 1.

Eagle facing off against glade guard

My Glade rider trying to hunt down this last wild rider to get his units points.

My wild wood rangers about to feel the hurt of a forest dragon

Wardancers make short work of my eagle as that wild rider continues to look on.

Forest dragon with sisters just shooting my wild wood rangers to death, or in combat i forget which.
This was my first game where i had seen what the gleaming pennant can do with the reroll of the failed ld9 frenzy check for a wild rider unit, and I am sold on its 5 pts of awesome and will start including it in my own lists.

Final victory points 2471 v 352
Battle points 20-0 against
Result: Lost the game, but had a blast playing against a top fella, with a great take on the wood elves, and i learned some valuable lessons.

So after game two i was sitting on 19 battle points which put me i would expect midfield again.

Cheers Lupus.

Cancon Day 1. Game 1. The flower of Bretonnia.

Hello all,

Well Warhammer Fantasy at Cancon has been run and won a week ago, not by myself you understand but by someone else much more talented.

Going into Cancon, I set myself the following goals for the warhammer fantasy tournament.
  • Have an absolute ball.
  • Win two games.
  • Finish with 80 battle points.
  • Have fun, it is so important that i needed to mention it twice.
  • meet Zephy and Hooch online mates from Wowcrack
  • Avoid last place if i could help it.
Rather then repeat myself and because I am super lazy my army list can be found here.
Before the event started i issued a Grudge to Mr Josh Crouch which he accepted.

So onto the first game.

Game 1- Josh Crouch and his Bretonnia army.
The Mission was Dawn Attack
Josh looking happy and fresh on day one, game one.

I played Josh and his Bretonnian at Axemaster in 2014 and decided the best way to start 2015 was with a rematch, in our previous game I lost 13-7 against his Bretons, and i was hoping to even the score.

Josh fielded this army. comp score of 15.4

Lord, General,
Questing Vow, Warhorse, Shield,
Sword of Swift Slaying, Gromril Great Helm, Virtue of Heroism, Potion of Foolhardiness

Prophetess of the Lady,

Level 4 Heavens, Warhorse, Dispel Scroll

Paladin, BSB,

Barded Warhorse, Questing Vow,
Shrieking Blade, Enchanted Shield, Dawnstone

Paladin,

Barded Warhorse, Questing Vow, Shield,
Birth-Sword of Carcassonne, Dragonhelm, Luckstone

9 Knights of the Realm, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer, War Banner.

6 Knights of the Realm, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer.

9 Knights Errant, Champion, Musician, Standard Bearer, Errantry Banner.

12 Questing Knights, Champion, Mucision, Standard Bearer, Lichebone Pennant.

3 Pegasus Knights, Champion, Musician.

5 Mounted Yeomen, Shields, Musician.

5 Mounted Yeomen, Shields, Musician.

10 Peasant Bowmen, Defensive Stakes.

Field Trebuchet

Field Trebuchet

Josh spells- did not record.( i think comet, chain lightning and harmonic convergence)
My spells
Life weaver- Flesh to stone, throne of vines, dwellers below and Awakening of the wood
Beastsinger- Wild form and fireball
Branch wraith- Earthblood

Deployment at the start of game, my wood elves ready for battle.
Deployment
The special deployment rules played no real factor in the game, no major disruptions to mine or Josh's plans so moving on to Turn 1.

Turn 1,
Josh prayed and of course i went first, my only real spells were throne of vines and flesh to stone for what i think was a small magic phase.

My wildriders fail a charge and are counter charged by a unit of knights of the realm, so glade i had flesh to stone off on them.
A unit of knights of the realm charge into my wildriders with +2T flesh to stone on them.
Turn 2.
My wild riders break after losing frenzy in turn one and flee from the depleted knights.
Josh charged his bowmen into my other unit of wildriders, which one the combat and allowed them to get into position for a flank charge on his knightly lances.

In my turn i was unable to re-cast flesh to stone on the wildriders and they broke, whilst the other unit went around the combat, via fast cavalry rules.

My glade riders arrive ready to do some damage, behind a lance of errants, questing knights bus and knights of the realm.

A picture from josh's side of the board with my glade guard and wild wood rangers and treeman getting ready to received the charge
Turn 3.
In my turn three my wild riders charge the knights of the realm with the prophetess , i cast flesh to stone once more and am able to defeat them and they flee through the questing bus, which my wild riders make contact with.
My glade riders charge the rear of the errants to tie them up.
Peg knights and my eagles continue to dance.
My wildriders after cleaning up some peasant bowman , move on to tastier units.

The unit of knights of the realm fleeing between the questing knights and errants, both units locked in combat, with 1" between all three units.

Turn 4,
The wild riders break the questing bus, killing the asb paladin, the other paladin and the General and overun into the newly rallied knight and his prophetess.
The knights errant break the glade riders who flee safely.
Errants break glade riders, but the wild riders tear through the other knights.

This is where i ran out of photo's i think we played until turn five or six i forget which, but in the end i was able to clean up his questing knights, which secured me a victory of 19-1. This brings my tally with Josh to one all, and i believe we are both looking forward to the tie breaker, An awesome game as usual against a great bloke.

Result Win
Unit of the Match - Second unit of the wildriders accounted for : Peasant bowmen, questing bus, all characters and a unit of knights of the realm.

So after round one i was sitting on 19 bp and to be honest was scared that i would come up against a top tier player, of which i am not(yet).

Cheers Lupus

Well Christmas has come and gone for yet another year, and as i sit and lament about the empty trifle bowl and how it never seems to last past boxing day, I though that whilst my lad was having his afternoon nap I may as well post my army that i will be taking for Cancon, I will be honest here,

So here is my take on a combat based wood elves, My lack of anti armor except for my 6 way watchers will  make my army very match up dependent.

Western Clash- The results

On the weekend just gone I attended the 13th Western Clash in Melton hosted by D6gaming.

My objectives for this were as follows
Top 10 placement which out of 16 attendees should work out for me.
Win 1 game
30 bp's overall.

This event was billed as a practice event in the lead up to Cancon.( Which as you should be aware is the next major tournament i will be attending)

The guys at D6gaming did a great job of running the event, and they have a good setup as well.

Anyway on to my match ups but I will not post my wood elves list or the lists or names of my opponents as i did not seek permission, and to be honest i can not really remember them at all.

So without any delay

Game 1. v's Bretts
A nice double lord Bretts list.
I lost this game 13-7, I struggled to kill his knight units but handled the chaff okay.
Highlights

  • Bret lances hit hard.
  • Beast magic can make units beasts.

Not bad for a first round loss, so i was in good spirits going into game 2. and only 3 bp of my goal.

Game 2. v's Wood elves
A mirror match  against a very interesting Treespirit List let by an Ancient

This game i won 17-3, it is always fun to see what other gamers think of the same race as yourself.
Highlights

  • Dwellers can be beastly as can +4 Toughness on a unit.
  • I need to remember my Army special rules- arrow of kurnos i am looking at you

Game 3. Dark Elves- Hellbron list
Going into the last round i was fairly apprehensive as Hellbron is a beast and can put out insane damage, i had a lot of luck in this game and my oponnent had some rolls not go his way.
Highlights

  • Dark elf dimensional cascade 1st turn gave me magical dominance.
  • A lucky spell took care of Hellbron and so i was up 700 points before the end of turn 1.
  • This guy was a pleasure to play against and took all the upsets in his stride.

In the end I won the final battle 16-4

The final wash up I placed third, behind a Vampire list and a Mono khorne daemon list.

So how did my list go in the end, it still requires tweaking and changes, but i met my goals for the event.
Top 3 placement
won 2 games
40bp's

Anyway please excuse the lack of detail and pictures, but once my list is submitted in Jan I will provide unending details, that will bore you, and of course some not so pretty pictures.

Cheers
Lupus

Western Clash - A warm up event for Cancon.

In an effort to kickstart my painting again i have signed up for  Western Clash in Melton Victoria a small 20 person 3 games 1 day affair.
I will be using this to tweak my Cancon list as it is advertised as a Cancon warm up event.

So going into this event my goals are

  • Help decide my spell lores
  • Have fun
  • Win one battle
  • Score 30 battle points.
Minor goals i will admit, but i am not that savvy with my wood elves as yet, so it is best to be conservative.

Anyway less blogging, if i could blog less than this for the moment, i have figs to assemble and paint.

Cheers
